The Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, a highly anticipated infrastructure project aimed at improving public transportation in Cebu City, is making steady progress despite ongoing challenges. The project, which broke ground in February 2023, is expected to be fully operational by the second quarter of 2025, with partial operations eyed as early as the fourth quarter of 2023.

The BRT project is a 13.18-kilometer bus lane that will run from Mambaling to Cebu IT Park. It will feature dedicated bus lanes, elevated stations, and modern buses, and is expected to serve up to 160,000 passengers daily once fully operational.

Current Status and Progress

Construction of the BRT project is currently underway, with the first package, covering a 2.38-kilometer stretch along Osmeña Boulevard, in the advanced stages of completion. The contractor, Hunan Road and Bridge Construction Group Co. Ltd., has requested approval for 24/7 construction and exemption from the truck ban to expedite the project.

The project has also faced some challenges, including the recent death of over 200 trees that were relocated to make way for the construction. The Cebu City Council has launched an investigation into the matter, and the project implementers are reviewing their tree relocation and maintenance procedures.

Anticipated Impact and Future Plans

The Cebu BRT project is expected to significantly improve public transportation in Cebu City, reducing travel times, decongesting roads, and providing a more reliable and comfortable commuting experience for passengers. The project is also seen as a catalyst for economic development in the city, attracting more businesses and investments.

In addition to the BRT project, the Cebu City government is also pursuing plans for a light rail transit (LRT) system to further enhance public transportation in the city. The LRT project is still in the planning stages, but it is expected to complement the BRT system and provide a more comprehensive public transportation network for Cebu City.

The Cebu BRT project represents a significant step forward in the city's efforts to modernize its public transportation system and improve the quality of life for its residents. Despite the challenges faced, the project is making steady progress, and its completion is eagerly anticipated by Cebuanos.

For example, many directories allow you to create a profile for your business that includes information such as your website address, contact information, hours of operation, and a description of your products or services. You can also upload photos and videos to your profile to showcase your business.

Some directories also offer additional features that can help you market your business, such as:

Review system: This allows customers to leave reviews of your business. Positive reviews can help to attract new customers and build trust in your brand.

Email marketing: Some directories offer email marketing services that allow you to send targeted messages to potential customers. This is a great way to stay in touch with your audience and promote your latest products or services.

How to get started with a local directory

Cebu Pacific Air, one of the Philippines' leading airlines, has announced plans to fully restore its international destinations by March 2023. This comes after a significant reduction in international flights due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The airline is planning to gradually increase its international flight schedule, with a focus on popular destinations such as Bangkok, Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong. Trips to Sydney Australia and Melbourne will be added by March as well. The airline is also working to establish new routes and partnerships to provide more travel options for its customers.

Cebu Pacific Air has implemented a number of safety measures to protect passengers and crew, including enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures, mandatory face masks, and temperature screenings. The airline also encourages passengers to take a pre-flight COVID-19 test and to download contact-tracing apps.

The move to fully restore international destinations is a positive step for the airline and for the Philippines' travel and tourism industry. It signals a return to some sense of normalcy and a renewed hope for the future.

Expect Cebu Pacific's offering its first seat sale of the year for international flights from January 27 to 31, 2023 with flights as low as P499 (one-way, base fare). Additionally, domestic trips between June 1 and November 30, 2023 are expected to be available for purchase during this time as well.

"Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo" is a flagship tourism program of the province of Cebu, Philippines, aimed at promoting the rich culture, heritage, and scenic beauty of the region to both local and international visitors.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said all regional directors of the Department of Tourism (DOT) will join the next leg of Suroy-Suroy Sugbo which will be implemented nationwide dubbed “Suroy-Suroy Northern Escapade” starts in the first quarter of 2023. Garcia stated that Secretary Christina has instructed all regional directors across the country to participate in the program, so they can gain first-hand experience and learn how to effectively implement it in their respective regions.

The program, which began in the 1990s, features a tour bus that travels to different municipalities in Cebu, showcasing the unique attractions, festivals, and delicacies of each area. The tour usually starts in the capital city of Cebu and includes stops in the cities of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Talisay, as well as the towns of Carcar, Naga, and Minglanilla.

One of the highlights of the "Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo" tour is the visit to the Magellan's Cross, a historical marker that commemorates the arrival of the Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan in Cebu in 1521. The tour also includes visits to various churches, such as the Basilica del Santo Niño and the Sto. Niño de Cebu Parish, both of which are known for their religious significance.

Another popular attraction on the tour is the Taoist Cemetery in Cebu City, which is known for its unique and elaborate tombs and mausoleums. In addition, the tour also takes visitors to the heritage houses, which are traditional houses and structures that date back to the Spanish colonial period.

The "Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo" tour not only promotes the cultural and historical heritage of Cebu but also helps to boost the local economy by increasing tourism and creating employment opportunities for the local people. Governor Garcia stated that the province of Cebu is open to providing assistance to local government units (LGUs) who want to develop their own tourism programs modeled after the successful "Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo" program.

What we desire the most when we travel anywhere in the world is to try the diverse and delicious foods that we can find in that particular place. The locals a.k.a "Cebuanos" are quite known to have a salty palette so most foods that are loved here are savory and a little bit more on the salty side. This you can expect in "Street Food", Fast Food chains, and some restaurants. So if you want to try any of these popular foods, you can always ask them not to put too much salt when you order.

Here are the best of Cebu's distinctive food offerings that you can explore and savor while on the island.
